People centric strategy for schools

Updated: Apr 30

Do you want to become a people centric school? Having worked with organisations for many years, I have developed a system for supporting leaders to assess their current position and make plans for change. The system with accompanying training can help increase leader's knowledge and understanding of how to become a people centric organisation. Whilst specifically designed for schools and education trusts, it has merit across a wide range of industries. Taking into account the changes to the workforce, societal changes, Generation Z and the need to be a high functioning organisation, leaders need a structured approach to growing their knowledge and understanding of this field and support for mapping a way forward.

The model is based on a 10 areas: Underpinning infrastructure, know with clarity, move in one direction, maintain focus, mobilise energy, empower, equip and grow, interpersonal harmony, emotional intelligence and whole person approach.

You can see the 10 areas in the wheel below.

Let me explain a little more about the model...

Around the outside is the commitment by the organisation: Recognition that people are the most important resource; A desire to utilise research findings on motivational leadership to ensure everyone operates from a base of effective practice; leading with intentionality and making a commitment to a people centric system; recognition that the sum is greater than the parts.

You can use the wheel to help assess the current position and decide on priority areas. Even the assessment process itself builds leader's knowledge and understanding of best practices, helping pave the way for future developments.

Making judgements against each strand opens up a rich source for constructive and insightful dialogue, which then helps to identify both quick wins and longer term actions.

Sitting underneath each of the wheels are criteria under the 4 headings: Systems, culture, leadership, classrooms. This then helps the school / trust to create a plan that looks systematically at current practices and helps to pinpoint developments.

There is an accompanying booklet to support and guide work, and through training and the personal support of Vicky Crane, leaders can harness the power of research and good practice in becoming a people centric school.

Becoming a people centric school is not easy or quick. Instead, it requires vision and dedication, an intentional approach and a plan for developments. If you are interested in truly moving towards becoming a people centric get in touch and start a conversation. Do something different from the norm, but make that something rigorous, strategic and evidence informed.
